cutters i admire

oh man, i am really into these beautiful papercuts right now. cynthia ferguson did the ones above and she has got a ton more on her site. they are all just really pretty. i especially like the historical ones. she also has a great "how to" on her site.

p.s. that is a bear killing a puma.

here are a few more by other artists i found:

er...something on your tooth.

i'm considering buying this for my apartment. thoughts?

on a stick!

egg press

egg press' store online has these cute stitch kits featuring different animal designs. i quite like the raccoon. also, i'm into these various paper dolls of a dog named pearl. custom-made paper dolls would be a really cool gift for someone. someday.

persepolis

we went to see persepolis, the animated movie based on marjane satrapi's graphic novels, last night. it was SO good and so true to the original stories and style. beautiful visuals and a story filled with sadness, love, humor and despair - also, a grandma who soaks her boobs in ice water every day.

pretty packages

i had to do store visits today hitting about 14 shops in the east bay. i'm overwhelmed with the amount of natural products out there! some with such attractive packaging that i instantly want to eat it or put it on my face. here are some nice ones.

pacifica soaps: they make soaps, candles and perfumes with gorgeous prints. they look especially nice when merchandised all together. oh, and they smell heavenly.

panagea organics - they make skincare products with awesome scent combinations. the bar soap packaging is biodegrable and if you plant it, will grow basil or other herbs.

quilting for dummies

my friend liza recentlymade some awesome quilts based on the style of the gees bend quilters. they came out really good with a modern and minimalist look. i started getting into the idea of trying one, prob not in that style but i have been shopping around for some inspiration. i like these li'l art quilts made by victoria gertenbach.

stuffed animals

i've been experimenting with stuffed animals, in anticipation of my baby nephew. also, cuz i really just like them. i found these on etsy and really like the aesthetic of them. they're made by lagreen.

drawing game

my friend mona introduced us to this hilarious drawing game. it's prob too complicated to spell out all the rules but basically you end up drawing someone's phrase, then passing to someone who describes your drawing with a phrase, so on and so on. it gets gnarly. here are some highlights that still keep me laughing. somehow "keep tahoe blue" ended up as some patriotic potato and then in another string, we found a grim future for snoopy.

secrets

my friend panda just showed me this blog PostSecret where people anonymously send in postcards decorated with their personal secrets. it's awesome but the mood can change on you pretty dang quick.

formal wear

i was planning on making a bunch of t-shirts for my soon-to-be-born nephew - ones with screenprinted neckties, bowties and a tuxedo front. i just saw this idea online and i may like the bib design better.
