insides out

amanda is really good at finding weird stuff online. she just sent me this link on flick of disassembled household appliances. it's pretty. my brother used to do this stuff when he was little and then try and flush all the evidence down the toilet.

SMILE!

found on KIOSK, this is a styrofoam model to teach mexican children about teeth.

Diaper Bags

Found these on Design Mom via B is for Bobbin. I want to make some for my sister in law. They would be super easy to make and a cute gift.

markers

i saw this on Oh Happy Day and had to repost. i want to make one.
this is made by daniel eatock by balancing paper atop pantone markers.

this is sand

like sand through an hourglass, so are the days of amanda's unemployment. ha! this is her beautiful pic she made using thisissand.com. i have been obsessed with the site for the past couple days even though my creations aren't nearly as pretty as hers.

A+ in eating!

a couple friends recommended this cooking school, first class cooking, in sf. courtney, panda and i signed up to be students for one with an australian menu. i'm really excited! i'll have to post the recipes and photos so i don't lose them.

Under the Costa Rican Sun

i just ordered this hat for my upcoming surf trip to costa rica. not joking. the thing is huge - 23"! last time i was in costa rica, i gravely underestimated the heat of the sun and ended up three-days sick from sun poisoning. not this time!

i keep reminding myself it's better to look like a silly tourist than a blistered tomato.

papercutting i made for dad

papercutting i made for dad
Originally uploaded by Luckpig

i finally tried a papercutting on my own after looking at so many awesome pieces from experienced cutters. i made this as a father's day present for dad, in honor of the model boat that he has already devoted like 300 hours to.

it was fun making it and learning as i cut. i defintiely want to try again and improve my technique. knowing how clumsy i am, i should probably keep an adequate supply of gauze and band aids.

frida at the moma

panda and i went to see the frida exhibit at the moma last week. it was rad. i've seen a gazillion images and prints of her work but rarely had seen any of it in person. her work is surprisingly more soft and fine than i had imagined. it's always interesting to see an artist's brushstrokes up close. one portrait, a very realistic one of diego, really stuck with me. it is an amazing painting but i can't quite figure out why i keep thinking about it.

al's attire

i just stopped into this little boutique on an afternoon stroll in north beach. there were some vintage looking dresses and coats in the window that caught my eye. the whole shop is hand sewn attire! adorable blouses, handsome coats and tailored hats! everything looks vintage and is made with real craftmanship. prices are high but i think the pieces you get here would last a lifetime.

a seamstress there told me they will adjust any piece to your body. they will also redfashion any vintage items of your own. i have so many ill-fitting jackets and blouses that i've been meaning to alter.

check out their yelp page.

last but not least, from shawn's page

secretaries are cool

i want to buy this blouse from norwegian wood. old secretary blouses always grab my eye, thankfully she has done some work on making them fit more attractively.

dutch door

i like these letterpressed cards from dutch door. they've got beautiful designs that remind me a bit of the papercuts i've been looking at and old stencilled items my mom sold in her antique shop. their studio is right here in sf!

old school scooter

i've always loved old fashioned toys. even when i was little i was really into the simple wood toys that my dad made. in his retirement, he's been carving alot of replica antique toys including an awesome one where a drunk guy, ale in hand, performs a weird, floppy dance upon the turn of a hand crank.

this handmade scooter is from the 50's and still works! it probably never went all that fast though...which is good cuz that brake is crazy.

i HATE this table so so so so much.

blown away by science

okay, so i don't understand much more than the adjectives in this article, but the photos are mind blowing. apparently, this is a particle accelerator so large it resides in both france and switzerland. it can collide particles faster than anything anyone ever dreamt about...i think that's a good thing.

a gnome in my home

i like this musical gnome pitcher online at theurbannestsf.com. they also have gnome plates and such.

swimwear

i like this bathing suit from anthropologie, even though team tan would never approve. do people really spend $200 on bathing suits? i just go to target.

bulletin board

i just gained a new sewing table, donated by courtney, for my apartment. i had to haul it 10 blocks practically carrying it on my head, so i really want to make good use of it. i'd like a big bulletin board above it. something to which i can stick magazine tear outs and fabric scraps. i'm having a hard time deciding on what color/pattern/format to choose but i like these ones.

cutters i admire

oh man, i am really into these beautiful papercuts right now. cynthia ferguson did the ones above and she has got a ton more on her site. they are all just really pretty. i especially like the historical ones. she also has a great "how to" on her site.

p.s. that is a bear killing a puma.

here are a few more by other artists i found:

nikki mcclure

sanna annukka

i'm considering buying this for my apartment. thoughts?

on a stick!

egg press

egg press' store online has these cute stitch kits featuring different animal designs. i quite like the raccoon. also, i'm into these various paper dolls of a dog named pearl. custom-made paper dolls would be a really cool gift for someone. someday.

persepolis

we went to see persepolis, the animated movie based on marjane satrapi's graphic novels, last night. it was SO good and so true to the original stories and style. beautiful visuals and a story filled with sadness, love, humor and despair - also, a grandma who soaks her boobs in ice water every day.
